The patient, a 16-year-old girl, developed a striking skin hyperpigmentation over her joints following an episode of inflammatory arthritis. The pathogenesis of this sign remains unclear. The phenomenon may be related to increased vascularity similar to the increased growth of lanugo hair over areas of subcutaneous cellulitis. 1
