While other meetings may improve the way you practice medicine today, this conference will offer a glimpse of how you may be practicing medicine in the future. The conference is designed to provide an open forum for physicians, researchers, and health professionals in clinical practice, academia, industry, and regulatory agencies to address the development of new therapies for autoimmune diseases. Representatives from the American College of Rheumatology, the Food and Drug Administration, and pharmaceutical/biotechnology organizations collaborate in the development of this distinctive conference. This year's program will offer an overarching view of converging health care sectors and emerging therapeutic discoveries within the next decade. The 2011 agenda will feature thought leaders on topics such as vaccine development for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, innovative drug delivery systems, the impending availability of biosimilars and the regulatory pathways involved in their approval, advances in bioengineering and regenerative medicine, plus the changing environment of clinical trial design and a hard look at economic and legal issues.

The conference will take place March 5–6, 2011 at the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia (just outside Washington DC). The deadline for the early-bird registration rate is February 14, 2011, and the last day for preregistration acceptance is February 21. The housing deadline for ACR discounted rates is February 11. Exercise your clinical muscle and register for the 2011 State-of-the-Art Clinical Symposium. Held annually in Chicago, this program is frequently referred to as the “mini–annual meeting” and features topics with specific relevance to the clinical practice setting.

Sessions on spondylarthropathy, vasculitis, autoimmune disorders, scleroderma, and advanced rheumatoid arthritis care, to be presented April 16–17, are designed to strengthen your diagnostic and clinical management skills. In addition to the opening lecture, the Best of Bones session and the Autoimmune Disorders session will spotlight other medical subspecialties and provide divergent points of view. Lunchtime sessions will feature case management presentations on osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Additional luncheon topics will include careers in academic medicine, clinical trials research, and biologics. This year's presymposium will take place on April 15, and will focus on the topic Integrating Immunology and Biologics into Clinical Practice.
