Next Editors of Arthritis & Rheumatism and Arthritis Care & Research Named

At its August 2004 meeting, the ACR Board of Directors unanimously approved the recommendation of the Committee on Journal Publications that Michael D. Lockshin, MD be appointed the next editor of Arthritis & Rheumatism and that Patricia P. Katz, PhD and Edward H. Yelin, PhD be appointed co-editors of Arthritis Care & Research. Dr. Lockshin is Professor of Medicine, Director of the Barbara Volcker Center for Women and Rheumatic Disease, and Co-Director of the Mary Kirkland Center for Lupus Research at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and Professor of Medicine and Obstetrics/Gynecology at the Joan and Sanford Weill College of Medicine of Cornell University in New York. Drs. Katz and Yelin are both on the faculty of the University of California, San Francisco, where Dr. Katz is Associate Professor in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine and in the Institute for Health Policy Studies and Dr. Yelin is Professor in the same academic units. All three bring extensive editorial experience and expertise in the field of rheumatic disease research. The term of the next editorship of both journals officially begins in July 2005.

Call for Proposals ARHP 40th Annual Scientific Meeting

The ARHP Program Subcommittee will meet in January to plan the topics and speakers for the 2005 Annual Scientific Meeting to be held in San Diego, California. To assist the ARHP in providing quality educational programs on topics of greatest interest to its members, a Call for Proposals is announced. The deadline is Tuesday, November 16, 2004. Members and non-members may submit a proposal for the annual scientific meeting. A proposal can be given in a lecture, symposium, or hands-on interactive workshop format. Sessions are scheduled as concurrent for 60 or 90 minutes and may be placed on the program on any day/time during the annual scientific meeting, unless stated otherwise. The ARHP Call for Abstracts for research, special interest, and case report abstracts will be available online in March 2005.

The proposal formats are: Lecture (single speaker), Symposium (not to exceed 3 speakers), or Workshop (should emphasize interaction and should not exceed 3 speakers.)

Coordinator must indicate on submission whether all speakers have agreed to participate if the proposal is accepted. Securing speakers prior to submission is strongly encouraged. If a speaker has not agreed, please indicate this on the submission.

Session presenters and the coordinator are responsible for their own travel and must pay the appropriate registration fee. No funds are available for honoraria. Presenters will be required to provide conflict of interest/disclosure statements if applicable. The coordinator will be notified regarding acceptance or rejection approximately 8 weeks after the proposal deadline. The ARHP reserves the right to 1) accept all or part of any proposal, 2) copy edit the title, purpose, and objectives and 3) adjust the requested time to meet the needs of the program.
