Abstract
Preliminary analysis of information science curricula and courses of 57 institutions of higher education, emphasizing discussion of their structure and areas of concentration is reported. The objective of the study is to identify, by computer indexing and factor analysis programs, the basic concepts present in existing programs and the trends in their structure. Final results of this study will be published as a sequel to this paper.
