Abstract

We present results on the instability analysis of the post main sequence massive star models against radial and nonradial pulsations. Both p- and g-modes can be excited by the κ-mechanism operating in the metal opacity bump. However, as opposed to the previous published results, an intermediate convective zone (ICZ) related to the hydrogen burning shell is not necessary for excitation of g-modes. Such modes can be reflected at the chemical composition gradient region surrounding the radiative helium core. We investigate properties of instability parameter, kinetic energy density and work integrals of pulsational modes excited in B-type supergiant models (© 2012 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
