Abstract

The prediction of leak areas in pressure vessels is an important objective in the safety analysis of chemical plants. Using suitable design rules, a leak-before-break behaviour can be achieved. This contribution outlines a procedure for the leak-before-break design of nozzle attachments and the determination of the size of the corresponding opening area. In addition, K1-factors and leak areas for a number of nozzle geometries have been calculated and plotted.
