Graphical Abstract

Backside bite: In the presence of potential donor substituents (allyl)Pd(NHC) complexes may undergo unanticipated self-degradation via coordination-assisted intermolecular C
H activation at the NHC backbone. On the other hand, such non-innocence offers new perspectives for NHC ligands as bridging carbene/alkenyl units in polynuclear complexes, where both the normal and abnormal positions engage in metal coordination (see picture).
