Hydrophilic Matrix-Assisted Ionic Transportation in the Columnar Assembly of Amphiphilic Dendron–Coils

original image

Ionic materials based on a dendron–coil amphiphile consisting of a hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) dendron and a hydrophobic linear polystyrene (PS) self-assembled into lamellar and columnar nanostructures upon increasing ion concentration (see figure). Depending on the morphologies, analysis of their ionic conductivities demonstrated that the columnar structure facilitates ionic transportation mediated by the continuous hydrophilic matrix.
