Teaching old dimers new tricks: The magnetic properties of the known dysprosium acetate dimer were re-investigated, confirming that there is no slow relaxation of the magnetisation. In contrast, the newly synthesised polymeric dysprosium acetate chain shows single-chain magnetism (see picture), making it the first homo-spin lanthanide single-chain magnet.
