siRNA was delivered by quantum dots (QDs) modified with functional molecules to silence targeted genes in cells. FITC-labeled siRNA was conjugated with QDs coated with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) coupled to amino acids, and resulted in a decrease in the fluorescence intensity. In addition, siRNA was delivered into the cytoplasm of HeLa cells by endocytosis and then released to specifically silence the HPV18 E6 gene under action of the RISC enzyme.
