A method is described for the determination of ternary liquid-liquid systems. The approach is based upon a combination of the lever rule and the measurement of a physical property which is a function of composition. The method has been tested upon the system toluene-water-acetic acid at 25 ± 0.05° and found to yield results in agreement with literature values. A possible modification of the method-which may be necessary in systems where tie-lines are essentially parallel when expressed on the usual weight per cent basis-is described.
