Experimental investigation of natural convection heat transfer in confined space for non-Newtonian fluid

Abstract

Experimental work was carried out for the study of convection heat transfer of fluid confined between two horizontal plates. The rheological properties of the fluid can be described by Ostwald - de Wael model. The results as expressed in terms of dimensionless groups were successfully correlated by the following expression:

The Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers are defined in the generalized sense with the flow behavior index, N, being considered as a correcting factor for the deviation from Newtonian behavior.

Abstract

Un travail expérimental a été entrepris pour étudier la transmission de chaleur par convection dans un fluide contenu entre deux plaques horizontales. Les propriétés rhéologiques du fluide sont assimilées au modèle Ostwald-de Wael. Les résultats sont exprimés avec satisfaction par la relation suivante:

Les nombres de Rayleigh et de Prandtl sont définis dans leur sens général et l'index de “comportement hydraulique”, N, est un facteur de correction tenant compte de l'écoulement non-newtonien.
