Abstract

This paper is concerned with feedback controller performance assessment of time-variant processes due to abrupt changes of disturbances. It is shown that in addition to minimum variance control, alternative performance benchmarks that are more suitable for time-variant processes can be found from routine operating data. Three types of performance assessment problems and their solutions are discussed. The proposed methods are illustrated through a simulated example as well as a case study on Shell distillation column data.

Abstract

Cet article porte sur l'èvaluation de la performance des contrǒleurs de rètroalimentation dans des procèdès à variance temporelle causèe par des changements brutaux des perturbations. On montre qu'en plus du contrǒle de la variance minimum, d'autres points de rèfèrence de la performance plus adaptès aux procèdès à variance temporelle peuvent ětre trouvès à partir des donnèes de fonctionnement de routine. Trois types de probleámes de l'èvaluation de la performance et leurs solutions sont examinès. Les mèthodes proposèes sont illustrèes par un exemple simulè ainsi que par une ètude de cas à partir de donnèes d'une colonne de distillation de chez Shell.
