      The central Cu ion at coordinate site 2 can be regarded as an electron bridge. The connection of chelidamic ligands by Cu ion extends the range of π bond delocalization and leads to the spiroconjugation phenomenon, therefore increasing the nonlinear optical responses of the materials.

      Microcalorimetry was applied to follow the toxic effects caused by different diphenol compounds on microbial activity of Chinese fir soil. The curves showed a synergism on total thermal effect obtained by the addition of 2000 mg·kg−1 of resorcinol, causing a consumption of resorcinol by the microorganisms as a new source of nutrients. Above this dose, the total thermal effect decreased exponentially. However, the addition of catechol and hydroquinone caused the total thermal effects to decrease directly. Microcalorimetry appears as a suitable technique to carry out both qualitative and quantitative comparative studies of microbial activity in soil

      Two Dy(III) complexes with benzoate derivative and 2,2′-bipyridine ligands were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra, ultraviolet spectra, thermogravimetry and differential thermogravimetry techniques. The thermal decomposition behavior of the two complex under a static air atmosphere was discussed by thermogravimetry and differential thermogravimetry techniques and infrared spectral techniques. The non-isothermal kinetics was investigated by using a double equal-double step method, a non-linear isoconversional integral method and a Starink method.

      By simply adding ascorbic acid in advance of AgNO3, the size and shape controllable Au/Ag bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared in the traditional Au growth solution free of seed at room temperature. With increasing the CTAB concentration, the SPR (surface plasmon resonance) absorption of Au NP continuously red shifted from 535 nm (CTAB:Au=10:1) to 631 nm (100:1), meanwhile, the size increased from (46±4) nm to (101±10) nm and the shape changed from spherical to polygonal.

      Two general expressions, six derived formulae and their numerical methods for estimating the critical temperature (Tb) of thermal explosion for energetic materials (EMs) are presented. The values of Tb for seven nitrosubstituted azetidines are calculated.

      Nano vanadium oxide VOX-C16-A was synthesized in an acidic medium to obtain more V4+ species, which could activate the molecular oxygen to produce the active oxygen species for the process of "reductive activation". In the direct oxidation of benzene with dioxygen to phenol, VOX-C16-A shows excellent and reusable performance without reducing agent.

      The anodic polarization behavior of Al foil was investigated in room temperature ionic liquid electrolytes: (a) BMI-BF4, (b) PP14-BF4 and (c) the mixture of BMI-BF4·PC. A better passive film formed on Al foil surface after the anodic polarization in BMI-BF4 could resist the potential up to 94.58 V vs. Ag+/Ag. Similar anodic behavior of Al foil was also observed in PP14-BF4 and the mixture of BMI-BF4·PC.

      The electrocatalytic activity of the hot alkaline treated electrode was improved by Fe2O3 modification. The current density of the Fe2O3-modified hot alkaline-treated hydrogen storage alloy electrode containing 5 wt% Fe2O3 reached 125 mA·cm−2 in 0.10 mol·L−1 NaBH4 and 2 mol·L−1 NaOH solution at −0.55 V.

      Modified MCM-41 has been prepared by bi-functionalization of thiol and amino containing functional groups onto mesoporous silicate MCM-41. Comparison of bi-functionalized MCM-41 with mono-functionalized MCM-41 (NH2-MCM-41 and SH-MCM-41) showed that this sorbent has more affinity for Zn(II) ions.

      Novel CdClOH sub-nanocones were successfully synthesized on a large scale by a facile solution-based method using polymer as crystal growth modifier. Some factors affecting the morphology and size of the product were systematically studied. A possible formation mechanism of CdClOH sub-nanocones based on nucleation-etching process- recrystallization in a mild aqueous solution was suggested. CdS hollow nanocones were synthesized using the CdClOH nanocones as template compounds.

      Three immobilization modes of antigen to the polymers in the pH-sensitive phase separation immunoassay were investigated and compared. The results showed that the immobilization mode in the presence of N-ethyl-N′-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDCI) rendered the most desirable results. The novel immobilization mode was used in the pH-sensitive phase separation immunoassay for rabbit IgG.

      Direct electrochemistry of glucose oxidase (GOD) was achieved based on the immobilization of GOD on a natural nano-structural attapulgite (ATP) clay film modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode. The immobilized glucose oxidase could retain bioactivity and catalyze the oxidation of glucose, which demonstrated that the nano-structural attapulgite clay was a good candidate material for the direct electrochemistry of the redox-active enzyme and the construction of the related enzyme biosensors.

      A simple and efficient method has been developed for separation of ΦΧ174-HaeIII digest DNA markers using the copolymers of (PVP-co-HEC) 3:1 ratio as separation medium. The results suggested that ΦΧ174-HaeIII digest DNA marker was successfully separated within 3 min using microchip electrophoresis with the optimization of injection conditions.

      The hydrophobicity of surface of the PNIPAAm-grafted monolith could change with change of the external temperature. When temperature increase above 32°C, the surface of the grafted monolith become more hydrophobic than below 32°C. Based on this temperature-responsive property, the grafted monolith could be applied to separate steroids only through changing column temperature with pure water as mobile phase.

      Calcite deposited in the poly-acrylamide hydrogel synthesized from lyotropic liquid crystalline (LLC) templates had a particular hexagonal morphology composed of numerous rhombohedral crystals with diameters less than 2 µm. The rhombohedral subcrystals aligned more regularly and their threefold axes were parallel to the threefold axis of the macroscopic polyhedral.

      The demercurization performance of wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) system was investigated by measuring mercury concentrations at the inlet and outlet of WFGD system with a QM201H mercury analyzer. The selected desulfurizer included NH3·H2O, NaOH, Na2CO3, Ca(OH)2 and CaCO3. The influences of adding oxidant and coagulant such as KMnO4, Fenton reagent, K2S2O8/CuSO4 and Na2S into desulfurization solutions were also studied.

      St-P4VP macromonomer was firstly obtained by ATRP with p-(chloromethyl)styrene (CMSt) as functional initiator, tris[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl]amine (Me6TREN) as ligand. Poly(4-vinylpyridine) graft polystyrene (P4VP-g-PSt) mono-dispersed composite microspheres were then prepared by dispersion copolymerization using resulting St-P4VP macromonomer as reactive dispersion stabilizer in ethanol/water mixed solvents.

      Based on the synthesis of a rigid aromatic diamine, α,α-bis(4-aminophenyl)-4-(t-butyl)toluene (1), a novel polyimide (PI) 3 was prepared from this diamine monomer and 4,4′-oxydiphthalic dianhydride via a one-step high-temperature polycondensation. The obtained PI could be quickly soluble in most common solvents at room temperature. Meanwhile, it showed high optical transparency with λcutoff at 354 nm and T450 more than 75%. Moreover, the PI displayed sufficiently high Tg value beyond 317°C, low dielectric constant (3.13 at 1 MHz) and low water absorption (0.40%).

      A new amphiphilic graft copolymer (PAA-g-PVAc) containing hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid) backbone and hydrophobic poly(vinyl acetate) side chains was synthesized via sequential atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) followed by selective hydrolysis of poly(methoxymethyl acrylate) backbone. The critical micelle concentrations (cmc) of PAA-g-PVAc in aqueous media were determined by a fluorescence probe technique. The micelle morphologies were found to be spheres.
