      During liquid-phase hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde, Co-B/SBA-15 exhibited superior cinnamyl alcohol (CMO) yield than Co-B/SiO2 and Co-B/MCM-41 due to higher dispersion of Co active sites and stable CMO selectivity. The geometrical confinement effect of the ordered mesoporous structure in SBA-15 could effectively retard the adsorption of C[DOUBLE BOND]C in CMO formed during the reaction and thus, inhibiting further hydrogenation of CMO.

      Proton conduction was confirmed directly by an electrochemical pumping experiment. The hydrogen evolution rates coincided with theoretical ones calculated from Faraday's law, indicating that in hydrogen atmosphere the charge carriers in BaO- and MgO-doped LaGaO3 ceramics were predominantly protons. Isotope effect confirmed the ceramic samples possessed proton conduction under water vapor-containing atmosphere. In wet air atmosphere, the samples were found to be mixed (proton+oxide ion+hole) conductors, and in dry air atmosphere, the samples to be mixed (oxide ion+hole) conductors.

      From the fluorescence Scatchard plots, the copper complex does not show typical competitive or noncompetitive inhibition of EtBr binding for both the slopes, i. e. (number of binding sites per nucleotide) change with the increase in the concentrations of the complex. The data prove that it can be bound to DNA by the intercalative binding mode.

      Glasses in the system xNd2O3·(10−x)In2O3·90Na2B4O7 (with x=0, 1, 3, 5 mol%) were fabricated via a melt quenching technique. The amorphous nature of the quenched glasses was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction studies. The infrared spectra of the glasses show no boroxol ring formation in the structure of these glasses. Optical absorption of glasses shows that the transition 4G5/2+2G7/2[LEFTWARDS ARROW]4I9/2 is more intense than the other transitions, which shifts from 580 nm (for the free Nd3+ ion ) to 584 nm. The peak in fluorescence spectra for x=5 mol% Nd3+ in the region 800–900 nm under excitation wavelength 584 nm was attributed to 4F3/2 [RIGHTWARDS ARROW]4I9/2 transition. Differential thermal analysis for (x=5 mol% Nd3+) shows glass transition (ca. 600°C) and crystallization temperatures (ca. 1155, 975°C). The scanning electron microscopy studies indicate the amorphous state of glass sample.

      Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models were developed for a series of potent anti-hepatitis B virus agents comprising 4-aryl-6-chloro-quinolin-2-ones and 5-aryl-7- chloro-1,4-benzodiazepines using Cerius2 4.10 software. The best 2D-QSAR model (r2=0.952 and r2pred=0.989) constructed by the genetic function approximation (GFA) methodology indicates that the activity was mainly governed by E-State-keys (S_sssN and S_sCl), electronic descriptor (LUMO), thermodynamic descriptor (Foct) and conformational descriptor (Energy). 3D-QSAR models were developed based on steric and electrostatic interactions by molecular field analysis (MFA) to investigate the substitutional requirements for the favorable receptor-drug interaction.

      The sandwich immunoreaction among the goat-anti-human IgG, the human IgG and goat-anti-human IgG labeled with colloidal gold was completed. The immobilized colloidal gold was enlarged by the reaction of HAuCl4 with NH2OH·HCl. A common UV-Vis spectrophotometer was employed to measure the absorption of the colloidal gold enlarged.

      The water-soluble functional CdSe QD displayed a bright, symmetrical luminescence with the fluorescence wavelength emission at 481.6 nm and full-width at half maximum of 57.6 nm. After conjugation with pepsin, the fluorescence peak intensity of CdSe QD decreased considerably, and the fluorescence peak shifted to 467.2 nm.

      A novel chemically modified electrode based on the dispersion of gold nanoparticles on polypyrrole nanowires has been developed to investigate the oxidation behavior of nitrite using cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry and chronoamperometry techniques. The proposed method was successfully applied to the detection of nitrite in water samples with obtained satisfactory results. Additionally, the sensor also showed excellent sensitivity, anti-interference ability, reproducibility and stability properties.

      Novel iminophosphocin derivatives were synthesized by condensing 1,8-diaminonaphthalene with tris(bromomethyl)phosphineoxide and L-valine methyl ester/ bis(2-chloroethyl)amine, then deoxygenation with trichlorosilane and treatment with various alkyl azides. All the newly synthesized compounds were found to possess moderate anti-microbial activity.

      A bismuth/multi-walled carbon nanotube (Bi/MWNT) composite modified electrode for determination of cobalt by differential pulse adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry is described.       A series of new indeno[2,1-f]quinolin-3(2H)-one derivatives were synthesized by a reaction of aromatic aldehyde with Meldrum's acid (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione) and 9H-fluoren-2-amine under microwave irradiation without catalyst in glacial acetic acid. This reaction has notable advantages of short reaction time, high yield and convenient operation.

      Using [d0]- and [d6]-4,6-dimethoxy-2-(methylsufonyl)pyrimidine ([d0]-/[d6]-DMMSP), stable isotopic labels were incorporated before digestion and the higher accuracy of quantification could be attained. The labeling could lead to a better universality of the strategy for cysteine-free proteins since it was spatial-selective to particular residues of cysteine, lysine, and tyrosine.

      Synthesis of north-5'-methylbicyclo[3.1.0]hexyl nucleosides with an ethynyl group at C-3' position has been successfully accomplished by a facile method. Methylbicyclo- [3.1.0]hexanone (±)-5 having three contiguous chiral centers was remarkably simply constructed only by four steps containing a carbenoid insertion reaction in the presence of rhodium(II) acetate dimer, giving a correct relative stereochemistry of the three chiral centers generated. Upon Grignard reaction of (±)-5 with ethynylmagnesium bromide, exclusive diastereoselectivity was observed. Condensation with N3-benzoylated uracil gave the desired N1-alkylated nucleoside (±)-13 with the undesired O2-alkylated nucleoside (±)-14.

      A convenient method to synthesize 2-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)phenyl phosphate, a substrate for the fluorescent determination of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, via the reaction of salicylaldehyde and o-phenylenediamine in the presence of Mn(III) acetate was realized. Preliminary tests reveal that the amount of the enzyme reaction product, 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl) benzimidazole, is proportional to ALP activity in the range of 0.01–5 U/L with the detection limit of 8.5 mU/L, which can be applied to assess ALP in biomedical research.

      Silica-supported polyphosphoric acid (PPA-SiO2) catalyzed efficiently the reaction of anthranilamide with aryl aldehydes or ketones under solvent-free conditions to afford the corresponding 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-4(1H)-quinazolinones. This work consistently has the advantages of excellent yields, short reaction time, simple experimental and work-up procedures. The heterogeneous catalyst can be recovered and recycled for several times without loss of any its activity.

      1,10-Phenanthroline, a simple and cheap N,N'-type ligand, was found to work well as the ligand of C[BOND]S coupling catalyzed by Cu2O. The corresponding coupling products were synthesized in good to excellent yields (75% –99%) in DMSO at 80°C. A variety of aryl halides and thiols were investigated and satisfactory results were obtained.

      The reactivity of Grignard reagent was different in THF and diethyl ether when subjected to substitution reaction with alkyoxasilane, and mono-, di- and tri-substituted silane can be obtained selectively from the same reactants by controlling the reaction conditions.
