      Carbon black (CB) without micropores was functionalized by mixed acid and used to explore the surface chemistry effect on the production of H2O2. The catalytic performance of the modified CBs for NH2OH oxidation increased with increasing the surface oxygen-containing species. Correlations between catalytic activity and concentration of different surface functional groups on the CB samples confirmed that the quinonoid species might be the active species.

      Mercury ion interaction with myelin basic protein (MBP) was studied at 300 K in 30 mmol/L tris buffer, pH=7 by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). An extended solvation model was used for Hg2++MBP interaction over the whole range of Hg2+ concentrations. The binding parameters recovered from the solvation model were attributed to the structural changes of MBP due to its interaction with mercury ion.

      96 pKa values of 85 carboxylic acids in aqueous solution were calculated with density functional theory method at the level of B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) and the polarizable continuum model (PCM) was used to describe the solvent. In this way we obtained an approach in which pKa values of carboxylic acids in aqueous solution can be predicted in the standard deviation of ±0.36 in pKa unit.

      The kinetics and mechanism studies, for the reduction of methylene green (MG) by urea, in acidic and alkali media, were studied. The reduction followed pseudo first-order kinetics with respect to different anions, cations, dye, reductant and OH ion concentrations. Most of the cations tested showed the inhibitory effect on dye decoloration, due to the formation of insoluble precipitate and followed the order K+>Na+>Al3+>Ca2+≈Mg2+. Tested anions showed that the dye decoloration was significantly accelerated and followed the order Cl>Br>I>NO3>SO2−4. A mechanistic model involving generation of a complex of dye with ions was proposed.

      A new Cd(II) complex of Cd- (H3biim)2(NCS)2Cl2 (H3biim=2-(2-1H-imidazolyl)-1H-imidazolium) was synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The interaction of the complex with calf thymus DNA was investigated through electronic absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, viscosity measurement, cyclic voltammetry and gel electrophoresis. These results show that the Cd(II) complex can electrostatically bind to the phosphate group of DNA backbone. The complex can cleave the pBR322 DNA at pH=7.2 and 37°C.

      The mechanism of Ga2-Tf and GaC-Tf passing in and out K562 cells has been established by using 125I-labeled transferrin. There were about (1.5±0.08)×105 binding sites per cell surface. Both Ga2-Tf and GaC-Tf into K562 cells are transferrin receptor-mediated process with a similar rate of endocytosis and release. A conclusion can be draw that both Ga2-Tf and GaC-Tf were recycled to the cell exterior with a protracted endocytic cycle compared to apoTf. Our present observations provide useful information for better targeted drugs in specific therapy.

      Human telomeric DNA could be induced folding specific G-quadruplex by three quaternary benzophenanthridine alkaloids: Sanguinarine, Nitidine, and Chelerythrine. The subtle structural differences of these alkaloids lead to remarkable differences in induced G-quadruplex structures.

      The determination of triazine herbicides by ultrasonic-assisted ionic liquid microextraction coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography was described. 1-Hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([C6MIm][PF6]) was used as the extraction solvent and some extraction parameters, including volume of [C6MIm][PF6], extraction temperature and time, salt concentration and pH values of sample solution, were examined and optimized.

      A series of 5-benzylidenepyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione and 5,5′-(arylmethylene) bis[6-aminopyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione] derivatives were synthesized via the three-component reactions of aromatic aldehyde, 6-aminopyrimidine-2,4-dione and Medrum's acid in aqueous media in the presence of triethylbenzylammonium chloride (TEBAC). The products were affected by substituents of aromatic aldehydes.

      The four novel derivatives of BINOL have been prepared and the structures of these compounds characterized by IR, MS, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The enantioselective recognition of these receptors has been studied by fluorescence titration and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The receptors exhibited different chiral recognition abilities towards N-Boc-protected amino acid anions and formed 1:1 complexes between host and guest. Receptors exhibit excellent enantioselective fluorescent recognition ability towards the amino acid derivatives.

      L-Proline efficiently catalyzed the multi-component Hantzsch reaction in EtOH at 60°C under ultrasound irradiation to afford the corresponding 1,4-dihydropyridine and polyhydroquinoline derivatives in high yields. This method offers the advantages of neutral and mild reaction conditions, high to excellent yields of the products and simple workup.

      A convenient, efficient and green synthesis of N-heteroaryl aminonaphthols has been developed by one-pot, three-component condensation of β-naphthol, heteroaryl amines and substituted benzaldehydes under solvent-free conditions at elevated temperature. The advantages of these reactions are simplicity of the reaction procedure, short reaction times, simple work-up, catalyst-free conditions and pure products in good to excellent yields.

On the feed side interface of the DSLM, the extraction of Tb3+ from feed solution with carrier P507 [can be as (HR)2] in kerosene can form metal-complex. The metal-complex [TbR3(HR)3] diffuses through the membrane A-B. At the stripping side interface of the DSLM, the TbR3(HR)3 dissolved in membrane solution and the metal ion Tb3+ are stripped by stripping agent. At last, carrier P507 returns from B to A.

      In this study, some accelerated experimental simulations of the microbiologically precipitation process were conducted after selecting a carbonate- mineralization microbe. The bio-deposited layer was about 100 µm and bound tightly with the surface of cement pastes after treated for 7 d. Furthermore, by injecting the paste, which consisted of highly condensed biomass, sand, urea and Ca2+, into artificial cracks of cement stones, and by adding nutrient solution, CaCO3 particles would gradually precipitate between sands particles which were combined with cement matrix. Results showed that the compressive strength of the treated specimens could be restored to 84%. This kind of bio-restoration method is effective in repairing surface defects of cement-based materials.

      Synthesis of OMCs with tailored pore sizes from 4.1 to 3.4 nm was achieved by employing SBA-15 as template and furfuryl alcohol (FA) as carbon precursors. An array of OMCs with controlled structures and morphologies by incipient wetness with FA was analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Raman spectroscopy.
