      The cover picture shows that a liquid-liquid interface reaction was designed to prepare TiO2 nanofiber membrane for water purification. When tetra-n-butyl titanate hydrolyzes, it immediately forms one layer of TiO2 particles at the water/ n-hexane interface. The as-formed TiO2 particles further react with NaOH to form high-quality nanofibers with lateral dimensions below 200 nm and longitudinal dimensions of several tens of micrometers. The membrane is thus formed at the interface by the interpenetration and overlapping of the flexible nanofibers and distributed by holes with sizes ranging from several tens of nanometers to several hundreds of nanometers. Benefiting from such a porous structure, this nanofiber membrane exhibited a high dye adsorption capacity and a high efficiency in the photodecomposition of dyes in water.       This communication presented a one-step process to prepare dopamine (DA)-coated superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticles (DA@Fe3O4) by a modified coprecipitation method and a facile approach to fabricate water-soluble Au-Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The hybrid nanoparticles were readily used as a platform and easily functionalized with a targeted small peptide A54 (AGKGTPSLETTP) and fluorescence probe fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) for liver cancer cells BEL-7402 cell imaging.

      Three new diarylethenes 13 combined with quinoline derivatives have been synthesized. Through controlled chemical condition of deprotonation/protonation, diarylethenes 13 presented some new irreversible photochromic phenomenons under UV/Vis light irradiation. It was found that they had well photoisomerization upon UV/Vis light irradiation in neutral or acid solution. However, the ring-opening isomers could not change to the ring-closing isomers under UV light irradiation in base solution.

      We reported the first total synthesis of hirtellanine B, using oxidative coupling for the key reactions, which resulted in a high yield. The antiproliferative activity of hirtellanine B against Jurkat cells, Raji cells and K562 cells were also investigated. It was found that hirtellanine B could induce G2/M arrest and apoptosis in human lymphoid/leukemia tumor cells.

      A novel series of cis-configuration nitenpyram analogues (2a2p) were prepared and evaluated for the insecticidal activity, and their cis-configurations were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. In addition, molecular docking studies were also performed to model the ligand-receptor complexes, and the results explained the structure-activity relationships observed in vitro, which may provide some useful information for future design of new insecticides.

      Novel acyclic Pd(II)-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) metallacrown ethers 5a, 5b have been synthesized. The NMR spectra show they exist as mixtures of cis and trans isomers in solution. The trans isomer of 5a was characterized by X-ray diffraction, which clearly demonstrated two pseudo-crown ether cavities in trans-5a. Pd(II)-NHC complexes 5a and 5b have been shown to be highly effective in the Suzuki-Miyaura reactions in neat water in air.

      In order to discover novel insecticides with the new action mode on RyR, a series of novel phthalic acid diamide derivatives were designed and synthesized. All compounds were characterized by 1H NMR spectra and HRMS. The preliminary results of biological activity assessment indicated that some title compounds exhibited excellent insecticidal activities against Mythimna separata, Spodoptera exigua, and Plutella xylostella. The title compound 3-nitro-N-cyclopropyl-N′-[2-methyl-4-(perfluoropropan-2-yl)-phenyl]-phthalamide (4a) was more efficient against diamondback moths than the control (chlorantraniliprole). The effects of some title compounds on intracellular calcium of neurons from the Spodoptera exigua proved that the title compounds were RyR activators.

      A practical one-pot protocol for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted oxazoles from 1-aryl-2-nitroethanones was reported. In the presence of iron/AcOH in acetonitrile, the reaction of 1-aryl-2-nitroethanones with trimethyl orthoacetate or trimethyl orthobenzoate delivered the corresponding 2,5-disubstituted oxazoles in moderate to good yields.

      A solvothermal water/n-hexane interface reaction of tetra-n-butyl titanate with NaOH followed by post treatments of acid washing and calcinations was designed to prepare TiO2 nanofiber membranes. This reaction produced high-quality nanofibers with a lateral dimension below 200 nm and a longitudinal dimension of several tens of micrometers. The membrane is constructed by the interpenetration and overlapping of the flexible nanofibers and covered by holes with dimensions ranging from several tens of nanometers to several hundreds of nanometers. Such a membrane showed a high efficiency in the photodecomposition of contaminants.

      The reaction of anhydrous CoCl2 with NaOAr (OAr=2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenoxo) in THF at room temperature in 1:3 molar ratio afforded anionic cobalt aryloxide [Na(THF)6][Co(OAr)3] (1). The definite structure of this complex was characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. It was found that this anionic aryloxo cobalt(II) complex could effectively initiate the ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide both in solution and in bulk, leading to high molecular weight poly(L-lactide).

      Three copper(II) coordination polymers [Cu(mbtz)2(NCS)2]n (1), [Cu(mbtz)2Cl2]n (2) and [Cu(mbtz)(btec)0.5]n (3) were synthesized. 1 and 2, are the one-dimensional double chain. 3 is unusual two-dimensional network. 2 and 3 further form the three-dimensional network through the π···π stacking interactions between the mbtz ligands. The thermal stabilities of 1, 2 and 3 were measured.

      Organic dyes with ethoxy-substituted oligo-phenylenevinylene as chromophores were synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The dye S3O showed broad IPCE spectra in the spectral range of 350–750 nm, and the dye S1P showed solar energy-to-electricity conversion efficiency (() of up to 4.23% under AM 1.5 irradiation (100 mW/cm2) in comparison with the reference Ru-complex (N719 dye) with an η value of 5.90% under similar experimental conditions.

      A multicomponent double Mannich reaction of amines, aldehydes and ketones was efficiently catalyzed by molecular iodine, producing a series of 4-piperidones in a stereoselective way. A variety of amines, aldehydes and ketones were tolerated in this tandem process, including those with labile functinal groups. Further investigation of the reaction between alkyl-imines and ketones showed that imines from amines and ketones were formed in situ and isomerized to enamine in the presence of molecular iodine to accelerate the corresponding Mannich addition.

      Natural mordenite (NMOR), modified by acid treatment and ion-exchange, was employed for NO adsorption in the present study. The NO storage capacity of modified NMOR was greatly improved compared with its original correspondents, mainly due to the preservation of crystalline structure and the improvement of surface area of NMOR. Among all the modified NMOR, Ni-NMOR exhibited the highest adsorption capacity for NO (1.20 mmol·g−1) in the presence of 10% O2 at 308 K.

      To discover new strobilurin derivatives with high activity against resistant pathogens, a series of novel β-methoxyacrylate analogues are designed and synthesized by integrating substituted pyrimidine with a strobilurin pharmacophore. The bioassays indicated that most of the compounds 1 exhibited potent antifungal activity against Colletotrichum orbiculare, Botrytis cinerea Pers and Phytophthora capsici Leonian at the concentration of 50 μg/mL. Exhilaratingly, compound 1a (R=methyl) showed better antifungal activity against all the tested fungi than the commercial strobilurin fungicide azoxystrobin.

      A novel one-pot synthesis of biaryl derivatives has been developed starting from bromobenzaldehyde and phenylboronic acid in the presence of activated methylene compounds via sequential Suzuki coupling/Knoevenagel condensation in aqueous isopropanol medium at room temperature. Significantly, this strategy afforded a straightforward and efficient approach to construct original biaryls in which a new carbon double bond bound to activated moieties such as nitrile, ester and amide is formed from three simple substrates in a one-pot procedure. Moreover, a wide scope of substrates could effectively participate in the process affording the target products in moderate to excellent yields.

      A new aromatic diamine containing trifluoromethyl and methyl groups, namely α,α-bis(4-amino-3-methylphenyl)-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenylmethane, has been successfully synthesized in high yield by a facile condensation reaction. A series of fluorinated polyimides (PIs) with bulky free volume and noncoplanar structure, were prepared by one-step high-temperature polycondensation procedure. The obtained PIs were characterized by excellent solubility, good film-forming capability, high thermal stability and optical transparency, light color, and good mechanical properties. The eminent combination of several properties guaranteed the obtained PIs as potential high-temperature resistant materials for optical and photoelectric applications.

      Peroxidase activity of the G-quadruplex/hemin complex is easily switchable by the hybridization of the effector strand (S1) with the complementary single-strand linkage part in the PS2.M-MB, which bears two G-quadruplexs halves at both ends. Formation of an intact G-Quadruplex through recombination of the two halves is possible upon complexing a K+ ion and a hemin molecule. The resulting G-quadruplex/hemin complex has a peroxidase activity toward the catalyzed oxidation of ABTS by H2O2 and results in a colored cationic radical: ABTS·+. An S1 effector in the solution will basepair with the beacon by forming a rigid duplex spacer with the middle linkage part (in cyan color) of the PS2.M-MB strand that efficiently block the formation of a G-quadruplex, and thus resulted in a reduced peroxidase activity of the G-quadruplex/hemin complex.

      Apoptosis inducing activities of K9(C4H4FN2O2)2Sm(PW11O39)2·11H2O (FSmPW), K9H(C4H4FN2O2)Eu(PW11O39)2·11H2O (FEuPW) and C4H4FN2O2H2PW12O40·8H2O (FPW) against HeLa cells were tested by Hoechst 33342 staining and Annexin V-FITC/PI staining assay. After treated with FSmPW, FEuPW and FPW at the concentration of 10 µmol·L−1 and incubated for 72 h, apoptosis bodies were observed in the three tested groups (Figue A). And apoptotic ratios induced by FSmPW or FEuPW were higher than that of FPW (Figure B). The different apoptotic inducing effect of three compounds may be connected with the bioactivity of rare earth elements Sm and Eu.

      From the thermal and the kinetic analysis of HIPS and HIPS/Fe-OMT nanocomposites, we deciphered the main idea of the thermal stability and thermal degradation reaction model. HIPS and HIPS/Fe-OMT nanocomposites had a similar reaction type, a one-step reaction. However, E of HIPS/Fe-OMT nanocomposites was larger than that of HIPS, indicating that HIPS/Fe-OMT nanocomposites were more stable.

      A highly practical method to access unsymmetrical and symmetrical thiosulfonates in moderate to excellent yields has been developed through NBS-promoted sulfenylation of sulfinates with disulfides. The present process enables the use of two RS in RSSR and shows broad functional group tolerance, which represents an atom-economical and practical procedure for the synthesis of thiosulfonates. A plausible mechanism for the role of NBS as a promoter for the cleavage of disul?des generating N-(organothio)succinimide that then undergos facile sulenylation with sulfinates is proposed.

      An efficient dimedone-catalyzed synthesis of highly functionalized thiazol-2-yl substituted E-acrylonitrile derivatives has been established through two-step reaction of α-thiocyanate ketones with malononitrile and amines. The α-thiocyanate ketones were subjected with malononitrile to provide thiazol-2-ylidenemalononitrile derivatives, followed with various amines in the presence of dimedone to yield the final thiazol-2-yl substituted acrylonitrile derivatives.

      The geometric conformation and electronic structure of bis-(5-nitro-2H-tetrazolato-N2)tetraammine cobalt(III) perchlorate and its Ni/Fe/Cu/Zn analogues are studied under the TPSS levels of density functional theory in order to throw light on the relationship between their energy gaps and impact sensitivity. The results showed that Cu complex has an additional coordinated O from the ClO4, and the metal-ligand interaction in the Co complex is covalent, while the others are ionic. Meanwhile the relationship between their energy gaps and impact sensitivity was studied.

      FT-IR spectroscopy of carboxylic groups and viability tests were useful to understand the antibacterial properties of six highly efficient silver(I) pyridinecarboxylate (nicotinic, picolinic and isonicotinic acids) and pyridinedicarboxylate (pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic, pyridine-2,4-dicarboxylic and pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acids) complexes with Ag[BOND]O and Ag[BOND]N bonds. The results show a tendency between the nature of Ag[BOND]X (X=oxygen and nitrogen) bonds and the rate or efficiency of antibacterial behavior.

      We have synthesized and characterized two complexes containing ruthenium as metal center. The complexes are of the type [Ru(dppz)L4](ClO4)2 where L are biologically important ligands such as pyrazole and dimethylpyrazole. The characterization of these complexes was done by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, elemental analysis and mass spectroscopy. The interaction of these complexes with CT DNA was monitored and binding constants were determined using absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy.
