      The cover picture shows a novel virtual screening approach for the discovery of 150-cavity in Group-1 neuraminidase inhibitors. Neuraminidase is a significant anti-influenza target that plays crucial role in virus replication cycle. The discovery of 150-cavity in Group-1 neuraminidase provides us a novel mentality of designing inhibitor which can bind with both conserved site and 150-cavity. In order to discover novel dual-site-binding inhibitors, a 3D chemical-feature-based pharmacophore model was established to cover dual-site in neuraminidase. The dual-site-binding models were consistent in predicting the binding conformation of Group-1 neuraminidase inhibitor and applied for virtual screening of Specs database. More details are discussed in the article by You et al. on page 1735–1740.

      As a photocatalyst, mesoporous carbon nitride (mpg-C3N4) shows higher photocatalytic activities in organic synthesis. Herein we report an mpg-C3N4-catalyzed oxidation of α-hydroxy ketones to synthesize 1,2-diketones using visible light. This transformation represents a green and highly efficient synthetic route to synthesize 1,2-diketones for which catalytic approaches are scarce.

      A simple and efficient protocol has been developed for the synthesis of 3-phenylnaphtho[2,3-b]-furan-4,9-diones by domino reaction of α-bromonitroalkenes to 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione and all compounds were fluorescent in solution emitting at blue light (432–433 nm), green light (512–536 nm), or yellow light (591 nm).

      An efficient and environmentally benign procedure for the reactions of three components condensation of salicylaldehyde and two different CH acids to give 2-amino-4H-chromenes catalyzed by a series of basic-functionalized ionic liquids was reported. The most possible reaction pathway was proposed for the first time by performing density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Both cation and anion of [Bmim]OH have a cooperative effect on the reaction. [Bmim]+ increases the electrophilicity of salicylaldehyde via intermolecular hydrogen bonds, while OH deprives proton of two CH acids to strengthen their nucleophilic ability.

      The four porphodimethene isomers, 5,10- and 5,15-disubstituted, have been synthesized in a one-pot reaction by the Lindsey protocol. X-ray crystallography, 1H NMR and UV-vis spectra have revealed that there are remarkable difference between 5,10- and 5,15-disubstituted isomers.

      A facile method for producing ultradense diblock copolymer brush was achieved. The thickness of dried diblcok copolymer brush on gold surface prepared by adsorbing PEO113-b-P4VP93 micelles from pure water and subsequent solvent annealing is 32.3 nm from AFM. The grafting density is 1.32 chain/nm2 with the assumption of the density at 1.0 g/cm3, which is comparable to reported maximum grafting density by existing method using the polymer with a similar molecular weight.

      Compound 4 (ZINC05790048) that aligned well to the model was selected after multiple filtrations for molecular dynamics simulations, indicating improved binding energy with neuraminidase. It can sever as the lead compound for a novel series of inhibitors.

      Three new photochromic compounds bearing functional groups on the cyclopentene moiety have been successfully synthesized through a simple method, which exhibit good photochromic properties. Furthermore, the ?uorescence of compound 4a can be modulated via optic and proton dual inputs, which can be used to construct an INHIBIT logic gate.

      Two series of novel anthranilic diamide insecticide containing trifluoroethyl ether were designed and synthesized. The insecticidal activities of the new compounds were evaluated. Surprisingly, most of them still exhibited perfect insecticidal activity against diamond-back moth when the concentration was reduced to 0.05 mg·kg−1, which was higher than the commercialized Chlorantraniliprole.

      A simple, atom economical and highly efficient green protocol has been developed for the synthesis of Michael adducts of nitroalkenes and 2-amino-2-chromene derivatives by Michael addition of active methylene compounds (such as malononitrile and ethyl cyanoacetate) to nitroalkenes under aqueous-mediated conditions. This green approach provided the desired products in high yields and the reaction scope proved to be quite broad.

      A rapid method to detect acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization Fourier transform mass spectrometry (MALDI-FTMS) was developed for screening irreversible AChE inhibitors. AChE activity was determined through calculating abundance of substrate and product in mass spectrometry. Shown in different inhibition curves from different OP pesticides, enzyme inhibitions kept good correlation with concentration of OPs. This method was applied to screen whole bloods of four decedents in comparison with healthy people. The results were confirmed by the following detecting in GC-MS/MS. Screening irreversible AChE inhibitors by detecting enzyme activity in MALDI-FTMS provided fast and accurate analysis results.

      A novel passive 3D mixer based on splitting and recombining mechanism has been conceived, which presents excellent mixing performance at extremely low Reynolds numbers. Meanwhile, the mixing mechanism also can be changed into chaotic advection only by adjusting the aspect ratio of channel without loss of mixing efficiency.

      The phosphoryl transfer reactions of diphenyl chlorophosphate with a wide range of alcohols were catalyzed by tris(pentafluorophenyl)boron [B(C6F5)3], giving the corresponding phosphate esters in excellent yields. This methodology has advantages over older ones because it uses the easily handled B(C6F5)3, avoids the undesirable side reaction, and has shorter reaction time.

      Four new 1,8-naphthyridine derivatives were synthesized by reacting the parent molecules with aldehydes and characterized. Two of the compounds have completely new and unusual skeletons, and display red-fluorescence emissions and two-photon absorption. Their structures were determined using MS, 1D and 2D NMR, and density functional theory calculations. The structural investigations of 2-methyl-1,8-naphthyridine hydrochloride and hydrobromide showed that abundant hydrogen-bonds and π-π interactions lead to extended networks.

      Two cadmium(II) coordination polymers {[Cd(btp)(NO2-1,3-bdc)(H2O)]·H2O}n (1) and {[Cd(btp)(1,2-bdc)(H2O)]·H2O}n (2) were synthesized. 1 consists of undulated 2D (4,4) networks. Two identical undulated layers are parallel stacking to give a (2D[RIGHTWARDS ARROW]2D) polythreaded 2D network. A 3D supramolecular architectute is constructed through the hydrogen bond interactions in 1. 2 has an unusual 2D (4,4) network with a thickness of ca. 10 Å. The btp ligands exhibit the anti-gauche conformation in 1 and the anti-anti conformation in 2. The luminescence and thermal stability were investigated.

They exhibit unique solubility, crystallinity, increasing good thermostability and UV-vis absorption ability along with the growing in number of azophenoxy groups.       A new series of ionic conductors, Zr1−xInxP2O7 (x=0.03, 0.06, 0.09, 0.12), were prepared. The conduction behavior was investigated in wet hydrogen at intermediate temperatures (373–573 K). Among the samples tested, Zr0.91In0.09P2O7 exhibited the highest conductivity of 1.59×10−2 S·cm−1. The H2/air fuel cell using Zr0.91In0.09P2O7 as an electrolyte (thickness: 1.73 mm) generated a maximum power density of 13.5 mW·cm−2 at 423 K and 16.9 mW·cm−2 at 448 K, respectively.

      The thiophene-derived amido bis-nitrogen mustard compound was designed, synthesized from 2-chloroacetonitrile and confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS, IR spectra and elemental analyses, its structure was further characterized by X-ray single-crystal analysis. The biological activities results showed that the target compound could inhibit the growth of MRSA to some extent. Moreover, the title compound was found to be effective against prostatic carcinoma cell line (PC-3), breast carcinoma cell line (MCF-7), colon carcinoma (LoVo) and lung cancer (A549).

      A new photoelectrochemical method for the determination of glucose based on the poly(thionine) photoelectrode modified by glucose oxidase is reported. The photoelectrode is employed as an electron acceptor, and H2O2 from the catalytic reaction of enzyme is employed as an electron donor, the glucose can be detected due to photoelectrochemical effect between photoelectrode and H2O2.

      A new ratiometric fluorescent sensor (1) for Cu2+ based on BODIPY with di(2-picolyl)amine (DPA) as ion recognition subunit has been synthesized and investigated in this work. The binding abilities of 1 towards different metal ions (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Fe2+, Fe3+, Pb2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Hg2+, Ag+) have been examined by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies. 1 displays high selectivity for Cu2+ among all test metal ions and a ∼10-fold fluorescence enhancement in I582/I558 upon excitation at visible excitation wavelength. The binding mode of 1 and Cu2+ is a 1:1 stoichiometry.

      A new Ullmann type synthetic protocol for the synthesis of functionalized triarylamines under mild conditions was reported, using 8-hydroxyquinoline as a supporting ligand and tripotassium phosphate as the base.       Novel steroidal (6R)-spiro-1,3,4-thiadiazoline derivatives were synthesized by the cyclization of steroidal thiosemicarbazones. The antibacterial activity of these compounds showed that steroidal thiadiazoline derivatives exhibited better antibacterial activity than the steroidal thiosemicarbazone derivatives. Among all the compounds, compounds 7 and 8 were found better inhibitors as compared to the respective drug Amoxicillin.

      Starting from the readily available 4-methylbenzoic acid, an efficient protocol for the preparation of ethyl 4-(aminomethyl)benzyl(methyl)phosphinate (1), a novel aminomethylmonoalkylphosphinate was reported in this communication. The important step involves the selective monochlorination of phosphonic ester by POCl3 and forming the phosphonochloridate, and followed by nucleophilic addition of CH3MgBr to the acid chloride intermediate.
