Controlled spin states: Changes in the spin state of Y@C82 as a function of the charge transferred to the fullerene cage in solution are studied in detail by using in situ electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroelectrochemistry. Tuning of the spin state of the endohedral fullerene Y@C82 occurs via the Y@C82 monoanion and the Y@C823− trianion.
