Effective Reversible Photoinduced Switching of Self-Assembled Monolayers of Functional Imines on Gold Nanoparticles

Rapid and effective photoinduced reversible switching is achieved on a novel gold nanoparticle coated by a self-assembled monolayer of a conjugated imine derivative due to transcis isomerization of the C[DOUBLE BOND]N double bond (see picture). No significant decomposition or aggregation of nanoparticles is observed. These highly reversible systems might find application in the design of surfaces with rapid switchable properties.
