The cover picture shows a catalyst, made of palladium nanoparticles supported on polyaniline-functionalized carbon nanotubes (Pd–PANI/CNT), that is highly active towards the direct hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone. Phenol conversion exceeding 99% was achieved with a cyclohexanone selectivity of >99% under atmospheric pressure of hydrogen in aqueous media. In their Full Paper on page 142 ff. Jinzhu Chen and co-workers report on a bifunctional stabilizing mechanism of the composite support PANI/CNT on palladium nanoparticles in the catalyst Pd-PANI/CNT, and how the PANI/CNT can play a role in controlling the conversion and selectivity in the direct hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone.
