Abstract

Blood vessel formation via vascular fusion. When placed into hanging drop culture, five uniluminal vascular spheroids fuse to form a single, larger diameter spheroid with an outer layer of smooth muscle alpha actin positive cells (red) and an inner PECAM-1 positive endothelium (green) surrounding a large central lumen.
