The Day of Immunology (DoI), celebrated yearly on April 29 [1], is a unique opportunity for

immunologists to inform the public about immunology and its importance, for example, in

the fight against infectious diseases and for therapeutic purposes.

This year, EFIS and IUIS encourage you, the experts in immunology, to design a campaign

explaining the benefits that understanding the immune system bring to the global population.

You can use any medium you wish for your campaign, such as posters, viral video, social media,

games, and you can also make use of the free tools provided by EFIS [2]; however, a golden

rule is that the campaign must be understood by those without any immunological knowledge,

i.e. it must be accessible to the general public.

The top three best public relations campaign for the Day of Immunology will be rewarded with 5,000 Euros and the awards ceremony will be held at the 15th International Congress of Immunology (ICI) meeting, which will be held from 22–27 August 2013 in Milan, Italy (http://www.ici2013.org).

How to apply:

  1. Designate one person among your staff or members to be the “Ambassador” for the campaign that you will develop and implement. Your Ambassador will be the contact person for all information regarding your campaign.
  2. Send the name of your Ambassador, his/her email, phone, address and a short description of your campaign action plan to: iuis.ny@verizon.net

    Deadline: April 15, 2013.

  3. Design and implement your campaign to take place on or around the Day of Immunology, April 29, 2013.
  4. After your campaign is complete, submit a detailed report to iuis.ny@verizon.net.

Your report should include what you did, an estimate of how many people you reached, and what were some of the major results. More information about how to submit a report will be sent to your Ambassador. Deadline for reports: June 1, 2013.

Participate in this year's contest with your fresh new ideas! To get inspired, read about the public educational events and magazines/ illustrated booklets that featured in the last year's Day of Immunology's winning activities [3].
