  • Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel are awarded the 2013 Louis Jeantet Prize for Medicine for their discovery of channelorhodopsin, opening the new field of optogenetics in neuroscience. Peter Hegemann is Professor of Molecular Biophysics at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. Georg Nagel is Professor of Molecular Plant Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Würzburg, Germany.
