The patient satisfaction survey (PSS) collects information on the perception, opinion, or judgment that the patient makes about the hospital experience. Patient satisfaction data is part of a program evaluation for documentation of quality assurance (QA)for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). The PSS information is used to determine patient satisfaction with service, outcome, and post-discharge knowledge, and to improve nursing care as well as the public image of the unit. Rehabilitation units differ from acute care units and, therefore, require a PSS that is specific to the unit. A PSS specific to rehabilitation units is described.
