Gender Role Conditioning and Women's Self-Concept

Authors

Abstract

This study supports the cumulative body of literature that suggests that masculinity is a strong predictor of mental health in women. Masculine and androgynous sex role orientations, both of which incorporate high masculinity scores, were strongly related to positive self-concept, whereas feminine and undifferentiated orientations, which incorporate low masculinity scores, were associated with poorer self-concepts.
