Raman measurements of carotenoid pigments in the heel skin of newborns. Dietary carotenoid micronutrients play an important role in tissue health due to their antioxidant function. Resonance Raman measurements permit rapid non-invasive assessment of carotenoid antioxidant status of tissue, providing information on nutritional supply and oxidative stress factors in preterm and term newborns as well as in infants.
