Raman microspectroscopy and advanced statistics is used for the identification of body fluid traces for forensic purposes. Specifically, this approach allows for differentiating peripheral and menstrual blood traces with 100% sensitivity and specificity. Forensic investigators can potentially use this new method for characterizing trace evidence and reconstructing the events at a crime scene.
