Abstract

An efficient synthesis of R3Si(CH2)3CH[C(O)Me]23 [R = Me, OR′] is described. The reaction of R3Si(CH2)3Cl 2 with the sodium of potassium salt of acetylacetonate (1) and 0.8–2 equivalents of NaI of KI in DMF, DMSO or NMP as a solvent gives the C- and O-alkylation products R3Si(CH2)3CH[C(O)Me]23 and R3Si(CH2)3OC(Me)[DOUBLE BOND]CH[BOND]C(O)Me 4 in a 3:1 ratio and a 60–70% total yield. For R3SiCH2CH[C(O)Me]2 selectivity and yields are lower.
