Abstract

Employees that are happy tend to be interested, engaged, and content in their work and, therefore, more likely to exhibit positive on-the-job behaviors. Given the fact that the number of older employees in the workplace is rising, how is it possible to ensure the happiness of this particular group of employees, especially since the needs of older employees differ from those of their younger counterparts? The experience of Sodexo France reveals that the implementation of a policy that addresses the unique needs of older employees enhances job satisfaction and positive affect and discourages negative affect—for the benefit of the entire organization. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
