Abstract
This article gives a brief overview of the current technological players in photovoltaic solar-energy solutions – crystalline wafers, thin-films, and multijunction concentrator cells – and how lasers play important roles in their manufacture. Then, we discuss a technology on the horizon: high-efficiency crystalline thin film deposited onto inexpensive substrates to provide cost-effective, high-output solar panels.
