Abstract
The fundamental physical properties of lasers are discussed. Included in this presentation is a discussion of carbon dioxide, argon, neodymium:YAG and ruby lasers. Laser optics and beam characteristics as well as Q-switching are presented. Ocular hazards of lasers and preventive measures are discussed.
