Materials and Corrosion 3/2013

From gray scale synchrotron based X-ray images to colored three dimensional distributions of chemical compositions, the oxide growth products of a zinc wire aged in aqueous NaCl solution have been revealed through a process of data constrained microstructure (DCM) modelling. The interface between the zinc and its oxide is found to be rough, with a transition range of five micrometers that appeared to consist of three layers of differing composition and density.
