Dear Readers:

We wish all of you a happy and successful year 2012 and would like to report on the changes to the operations of the journal that happened in 2011:

As reported last year, starting with 2011, the journal Mathematical Logic Quarterly is now published under the auspices of the Deutsche Vereinigung für Mathematische Logik und für Grundlagenforschung der exakten Wissenschaften (DVMLG) and the managing editors and editors are appointed on the basis of recommendations of the board of the DVMLG. In 2011, the three new managing editors and the new editorial assistant, Peter van Ormondt, coordinated major changes to the typesetting system of the journal and a move to the online submission system Scholar One Manuscripts which has been online and fully operational since September 2011.

At the end of 2010, Armin Hemmerling handed over the position of the managing editor to the new team consisting of Benedikt Löwe, Klaus Meer, and Pavel Pudlak after six years of running the journal MLQ. He had offered to remain on the editorial board for the year 2011, but is now leaving the editorial team for good. We regret his decision very much, but understand that after so many years of investing time and energy in the journal, he deserves a break. We should like to use this opportunity to thank Professor Hemmerling for his service to the community and MLQ. After a year of managing MLQ in a group of three managing editors, we got a glimpse of the amount of work that Professor Hemmerling had to do in his six years as the sole managing editor. We wish Professor Hemmerling all the best for the future.

We are also sorry to report that Pavel Pudlak, one of the new managing editors, had to decide to withdraw from his post after one year due to other commitments. We cordially thank Professor Pudlak for his important role in the restructuring of the management team of MLQ in the year 2011. His critical voice and high scientific standards were crucial in our first year as managing editors. Upon recommendation of the board of the DVMLG, Professor Pudlak will be replaced by Rosalie Iemhoff who takes her role as managing editor on 1 January 2012. We are greatly looking forward to our collaboration with Dr. Iemhoff in the coming year.

The managing editors and the board of the DVMLG decided to add a few members to the editorial board. We are pleased to report that Zoé Chatzidakis (Paris), Mirna Džamonja (Norwich), Erich Grädel (Aachen), and Ted Slaman (Berkeley CA) joined our editorial board on 1 January 2012.

Let us close with a report on a cosmetic change: For a while, we had felt that it was odd that a journal entitled Quarterly would appear six times a year. While it was not possible to change the annual number of issues, we arranged with the publisher that from 2012 onwards, MLQ will appear quarterly, as its name suggests: in February (issue 1/2), May (issue 3), August (issue 4/5), and November (issue 6).
