Cover: A stimulus-sensitive biohybrid material that discriminates between physiological and pathological urate concentrations is presented. As a urate sensor the Deinococcus radiodurans regulator protein HucR is used which crosslinks DNA and polyacrylamide to a hydrogel as a function of the urate concentration.
