      Back Cover: An efficient polycondensation route for telechelic poly(disulfide)s is developed from two monomers—2,2′-dithiodipyridine and 1,6-hexanedithiol—using stoichiometric imbalance between them. Selective thiol-disulfide exchange of the two terminal pyridyl disulfide groups with functional thiol produces functionalized poly(disulfide)s that can be used as a macro-initiator to initiate ROP of lactide generating a triblock copolymer with degradable middle block.       Boron-ketoiminate-containing polymers are synthesized by Suzuki–Miyaura coup­ling, and their optical properties are examined by UV–vis absorption and photoluminescence spectrometries. The polymers exhibit strong emission both in the solution and solid states, and their emission colors are successively tuned from blue to orange by changing the substituents on the nitrogen atom and the comonomer units.

      Molecular recognition introduces function into an amphiphilic polymer containing pendant benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamides (BTAs). The polymer folds in water into a nanoparticle via the self-assembly of the BTA units. The addition of a “free” BTA containing either a fluorescent or a catalytic unit affords fluorescent and catalytically active nanoparticles, respectively.

      Supramolecular helical polymers are fabricated by effective supramolecular stacks of C3 molecules pendanted with dipeptides in organic solvents. Small structural changes in these peptide pendants lead to a significantly different expression of the supramolecular assembly, and the chiral enhancement and conformation stability of these helical supramolecular objects are dependent on the balance between hydrogen bonding and steric hindrance.

      Highly efficient catalyst copper(II) acetate mediated polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with iniferter agents is successfully conducted in the absence/presence of air even with ppm level catalyst concentration. Moreover, the resultant PMMA is endowed with high chain-end functionality and remains “living”.

      In this Communication, a mild, efficient, and generalized polycondensation route is developed for poly(disulfide)s from the commercially available monomers 2,2′-dithiodipyridine and 1,6-hexanedithiol. Using the stoichiometric imbalance between the two monomers, it is possible to produce telechelic poly(disulfide)s of predictable molecular weight with reactive pyridyl disulfide groups at both the terminals, from which an ABA-type block copolymer is further synthesized.

      The first vapor-phase deposition of photoresponsive poly(vinyl cinnamate) thin films is reported. Film compositions and extent of photodimerization (cross-linking) are quantified using spectroscopic techniques, and a selectively exposed dual-responsive copolymer of vinyl cinnamate and N-isopropylacrylamide exhibits reversible patterning upon submersion in water.

      The protection of primary amines available in proteins holds great potential to introduce a plethora of diverse functionalities along the protein backbone while circumventing the crosslinking issue using conventional approaches. This paper reports on a straightforward and efficient proof-of-concept by the chemoselective N-tert-butyloxycarbonylation of the primary amines in the protein gelatin (gel-NH-BOC), followed by introducing crosslinkable methacrylate moieties.

      Surface-mediated seeded polymerization leads to inorganic nanoparticles grafted with zwitterionic polymer brushes and a hydrogel gel shell. Studies on suspension rheology demonstrate that chain architectures of coated polymers are indeed important and have a role in regulating the particle-to-particle interaction in the particle suspension and the drop-to-drop interaction in the Pickering emulsion.

      Two new D–A copolymers PBTTPTI and PTTTPTI consisting of the fused-ring acceptor unit TPTI and 2,2′-bithiophene or thieno[3,2-b]thiophene donor units are developed. PBTTPTI:PC71BM and PTTTPTI:PC71BM solar cells give power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 6.83% and 5.86%, with very impressive fill factors (FF) of 74.3% and 71.3%, respectively.
