The metallocene catalyst developed by Kaminsky and Sinn has been demonstrated to permit the synthesis of any kind of stereoregular polymers as well as uniform copolymers with very narrow compositional and molecular weight distributions. The catalyst is, thus, expected to comprise a revolution in the polyolefin industry.
More recently, a great deal of research effort has been devoted to modify it for practical applications, which has yielded a new generation of metallocene catalysts.
This paper summarizes the results reported so far in the field. Some of our original data will be also reported.
