Abstract

This paper presents an investigation of the influences of temperature and UV radiation on the antimicrobial properties of Bactericide Wood Polymer Composite (BWPC). The composite was formulated with polypropylene (PP), wood flour from Pinus elliotis and a triclosan compound. The BWPC was exposed to different time periods and to UV radiation at 100 °C. Microbiological tests were conducted with Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. These results showed that the bactericide action is strongly affected by the time of exposure of the composite to high temperature and UV radiation.
