The image depicts the concept of enzymatic- and light-degradable hybrid nanogels that are prepared via free radical copolymerization of acrylamide with acrylate-functionalized dextrans containing photocleavable linkers in an inverse miniemulsion, as presented by Daniel Klinger and Katharina Landfester on page 1062. These particles exhibit a two-step degradation behavior as follows: a slow partial enzymatic degradation could be combined with a complete and fast on-demand particle dissolution upon irradiation.
