A rapid and cost-effective protocol for the fabrication of TiO2 nanoparticles decorated with thin carbon coatings, which are derived from the calcination of a low-cost, eco-friendly, and readily available carbohydrate species, is established. The method is used to improve the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells.
