A global approach for reducing risks in hydrogenation operations

Authors

Abstract

Pfizer API manufacturing consists of 16 sites around the world and represents a large manufacturing capability. This network has expanded in recent years through mergers. This community of manufacturing sites represents a wide range of practical knowledge for conducting safe API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) manufacturing. Taking advantage of this wealth of experience, Pfizer manufacturing operations performed a global survey of hydrogenation current practices. From the information gathered, a “Hydrogen and Catalyst Handling Good Practice” guide was developed that covered the facility design and operational practices. The team that developed the “Good Practice” guide is also involved in overseeing the implementation of the recommended practices at all manufacturing sites conducting hydrogenations. © 2005 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Process Saf Prog, 2005
