    • Louis A. Rosenthal was born in New York and graduated from City College of New York and Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with degrees in Electrical Engineering. Since 1944 he had been at Rutgers University, Piscataway, New Jersey and retired in 1981 after 37 years as a Professor of Electrical Engineering. In addition, he has been a consultant to various chemicals and plastics companies for the past 35 years working in the areas of corona discharge surface treatment, static electricity, and special instrumentation/measurement techniques.

      He is a registered professional engineer in the State of New Jersey.


The use of plastic drums in handling flammable materials require special considerations because of potential static electricity hazards. Various aspects of the problem are presented with suggested means of control.
