Abstract

In 1986, the executive management of Kerr-McGee Corporation directed that each operating unit examine its facilities for process hazards so that any deficiencies could be corrected.

This paper reviews organization of the corporatewide process safety program and the deployment of review teams at particular facilities. It also focuses on how one operation in the chemical subsidiary was affected by events at a nearby competitor's facility. Lessons learned in managing the reviews have helped improve ongoing programs throughout the corporation.
