Abstract

In this paper, we have carried out a numerical study to evaluate the potential of the impurity photovoltaic (IPV) effect in magnesium-doped silicon solar cells with two energy levels. We found that the cell efficiency can realize an absolute increase of above 2% due to the IPV effect. The efficiency improvement results from the extension of the infrared response of the solar cell. These results indicate that the IPV effect in silicon solar cells doped with magnesium is a potential means for improving cell efficiency.
