Electrostatic field control of exciton–plasmon coupling and optical response of individual carbon nanotubes



An electrostatic field applied perpendicular to the nanotube axis can control the coupling of excitonic states to interband surface plasmon modes in individual small-diameter (∼1 nm) semiconducting single wall carbon nanotubes (CNs). This allows one to manipulate by the exciton emission from individual nanotubes, both in the linear excitation regime and in the non-linear excitation regime with the photoinduced biexcitonic states formation. These results should be useful for the development of new tunable optoelectronic device applications of optically excited semiconducting CNs.
