Abstract

Faraday rotation spectra have been measured in the exciton absorption region on evaporated films of cuprous halides including CuCI, CuBr, CuI, and CuBr-CuCl mixed crystals. From an analysis of the observed spectra, the exciton effective g- values are estimated and compared with a theory which takes account of the Zeeman, exchange, and spin-orbit energies for the IS exciton states. Effects of the hybridization of the Cu 3d and halogen p orbitals in the valence bands in cuprous halides are quantitatively investigated.
