Electric field-induced exciton localization in quantum wells

Abstract

We report on first spectrally and spatially high resolved measurements of a recently suggested electrostatic confinement [Ludwig et al., Phys. Status Solidi B 243(10), 2363 (2006)] for excitons in a single quantum well. For this strongly correlated many-particle system we present finite-temperature quantum Monte-Carlo results and discuss the specific trap parameters at which a phase transition to a mesoscopic Wigner crystal phase of spatially indirect excitons is expected to be accessable.
