Aucubin: A new antidote for poisonous Amanita mushrooms

Aucubin, an iridoid glycoside, exhibits significant protective activities against Amanita intoxication in beagle dogs. The post-injection of aucubin helps beagle dogs survive from lethal poisoning caused by A. virosa ingestion. Such protective activities of aucubin result from primarily preventing hepatic injury caused by Amanita poisoning, and is partly due to a preventive effect of aucubin on the depression of m-RNA biosynthesis in the liver caused by α-amanitin intoxication.
