Gene genie: Stimuli-activated changes in gene-delivery systems are investigated using AFM. Thermoresponsive nanocarriers (see image) show size increases over a scale range that can be exploited for site-specific deposition. Redox-responsive nanocarriers in intracellular environment conditions disassemble into the component parts. These findings highlight the importance of research at the pharmaceutical–nanotechnology interface in the development of next-generation drug-delivery systems.
