The preparation and optical properties of an hexagonal array of ultrasharp tips are demonstrated. The ensemble of nanoprobes exhibits a significant Raman enhancement factor (> 104) when the probe surface is functionalized with a monolayer. From Raman imaging measurements with benzenethiol as a reference molecule, the maximum enhancement effect is clearly localized at the apex of the sharp tips (see image).
